Vincent "Vince" DeLucia
Vincent "Vince" De Lucia and his brothers, Gil (wife, Lou) and Ron (wife, Charlene) grew up in Malta. Vince was two years old when his parents, with his seven year old brother, Gil, moved here to help care for Vince's paternal grandparents. His grandparents were in their senior years when they moved to "Malta Ridge" in the 1920's. They started a small grocery/general store in the 1930's. Vince and his two brothers worked in the family business well into their adult lives. The youngest brother, Ron, currently operates that business, named De Lucia's Deli and Grocery, located just south of exit 13 on Route 9. . . perhaps one of the longest continuously run retail businesses in the town of Malta.
Vince, a lifelong resident of Malta, is a graduate of Ballston Spa High School, as is his wife, Claudia (Kemp) De Lucia. They met and steadily dated since her Junior and his Sophomore year in high school. They married in the spring of Vince's junior year in college. He attended Curry College in Milton, Mass., which is just outside of Boston, where he also played football and baseball. He holds a Bachelors Degree from Curry, Masters Degree from Russell Sage College and completed other studies at Florida State University as well as advanced graduate studies at SUNY Albany, including NYS certification in School Administration. Vincent De Lucia taught school in Ballston Spa, as did his wife, Claudia. He left his middle school teaching and science department chairperson position in Ballston to become a principal in the Shenendehowa school district. He retired from Shenendehowa after serving as a school principal for over 26 years. After retirement, he was recruited for and accepted several interim administrative positions in various other school districts in Saratoga and Washington counties.
In the 1970's, Vince was a member of the Ballston Area Recreation Commission. He also became chairperson of that group. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the nonprofit Newmeadow School for children with autism and special needs, located in Malta and a satellite school in Queensbury. He served for over twelve years, with more than six of those years as president of the board.
Claudia and Vincent are the proud parents of three daughters and sons-in-law (Kim & Scott C., Laurie & Scott F. and Anne & "Meo" C. ) and three grandchildren.
