Storm Drain Marking
The discharge of any materials other than stormwater and some exempted materials is illegal in the Town of Malta. Examples of illegal materials include paints and household hazardous materials, concrete/cement, swimming pool water that has not been dechlorinated, fertilizers, landscape debris and clippings, and dog waste. Storm drain marking is an effective way to educate the public about illegal dumping and to reduce water pollution. The town has tags available to mark drains for any community group looking for a community service project. If you are interested in learning more, please contact the town Stormwater Management Officer at 899-2685.
Volunteer Monitoring
If you spend time in the rivers and lakes of town you can easily become a volunteer monitor on the lookout for unusual looking or smelling water and for invasive species. To learn more about NYS’s invasive species list and what to look for, visit the
NY Invasive Species Clearinghouse. If you see something that looks like possible water pollution or an invasive species, please call the town Stormwater Management Officer at 899-2685
